WORKSHOPS
Poetry101/201 Teen Level (age 14-18) with poet Kenneth Lundquist, Jr.
A lecture based, participatory workshop. Poetry is passion. Passion is life. Poetry is life. A satisfying exploration of its
roots and components (published in a detailed handout) will give way to class discussions and presentation of materials, both
established and new, by published authors as well as class participants.
Discussions will explore the philosophies in each
poem as well as what it takes to create them. A composition book and a sturdy pen will be required.
Poetry 101 Adult Level (18 and over) with poet Reggie Marra Bring writing implements of your choice
POETIC FEARECTOMY (aka POETRY WITHOUT FEAR): A Reasonably Safe, Non-Surgical Procedure for Uncovering
Your Inner Poet
If you don’t believe you can write poetry, or if you are afraid of trying, this workshop is for you. We will explore and
remove your errant belief and your fear, introduce you to a few tools and practices, coerce, trick, encourage and guide you
into writing a poem that you want to write, and even provide you with immediate rehab feedback if you’d like it. We’ll also send
you on your way, first draft(s) in hand, with a prescription for how to continue on your creative path.
Poetry 201: WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE, AND WHAT (IN THE WORLD) DO YOU MEAN BY THAT?
Exploring Your Disowned and (gulp) Transcendent Voices
Your poetry is published—perhaps once, perhaps a hundred-and-once—and as you continue to master your craft, you
notice an occasional and unusual dose of control, skepticism, anger, desire, vulnerability, grief, joy, fear, or __________ in
your writing. Or, perhaps more intriguing, you don’t notice it, but your trusted readers and listeners do. Join us in a written
exploration of these disowned voices.
